Section 5
Acquiring recognized Nepali citizenship

(1) If a foreign woman who is married to a Nepali citizen wants to obtain Nepali citizenship, she must submit an application in the prescribed format to the designated authority. When making such an application, the proof of marital relationship with a Nepali citizen and the process of renouncing foreign citizenship must also be submitted. And on the basis of his father's citizenship, if he has not taken the citizenship of a foreign country, then he can be granted recognized citizenship as prescribed.

(3) According to sub-section (2), a person who wants to get recognized citizenship should submit an application to the designated authority by attaching the following documents –
(a) Copy of mother's certificate of Nepalese citizenship,
(b) The recommendation of the concerned rural municipality or municipality to open permanent residency in Nepal (c) A self-declaration made by him that he has not acquired the citizenship of any foreign country based on his father's citizenship, as prescribed. A recognized Nepalese citizenship can be granted to a person who has been determined by the Government of Nepal to have made or can make a special contribution to industrial, economic or social progress -
(a) able to speak and write Nepali or any other language prevalent in Nepal,
(b) residing in Nepal doing any business,
(c) Relinquished or declared relinquishment of citizenship of other countries, amended by Act to amend certain Nepal Acts, 2072.
(d) having resided in Nepal for at least fifteen years,
(e) Being a citizen of a country where there is a legal system or practice of granting recognized citizenship to Nepali citizens,
(f) of good conduct,
(g) Mentally healthy.

(5) Notwithstanding anything written in sub-section (4), among the children of a person who has obtained recognized Nepali citizenship, heThe children born before acquiring the citizenship can get recognized Nepali citizenship as prescribed.

(6) The person who gets recognized Nepali citizenship according to this section will be given a certificate of Nepali citizenship in the prescribed format after taking the oath as per the schedule and from the date of receiving such certificate, such person Will be a naturalized citizen of Nepal. Regardless of what is written in Section 5, the Government of Nepal can grant honorary citizenship of Nepal to an internationally renowned person.
