(1) A person who has obtained a permit for mining may submit an application to the department to abandon the area specified in the permit he has received so that the importer does not lose an area of ​​0.25 square kilometers (about a tenth of a square mile).
(2) If an application is received in accordance with sub-rule (1), the department may give permission to abandon the area if it deems it appropriate after conducting the necessary investigation.
