In this Act, unless the subject or the context otherwise requires,—
(a) "Domestic violence" means physical, mental, sexual or financial torture inflicted by a person on another person with whom he has a domestic relationship …………..
(b) "domestic relationship" means a relationship between persons living in the same family by descent, marriage or adoption or adoption or as members of a joint family, as dependents or workers and the term includes cohabiting spouses or spouses living separately with or without participation. It also refers to the relationship of the wife.
(c) "Physical Torture" means beating, unlawful detention, physical injury, sprinkling of sharp or other similar substance or inflicting pain on the face, body, face or any part of the body with such substance; It should mean the act of passing or doing any other similar work.
(d) "Mental torture" means fear or threat of physical torture, threatening behavior, verbal abuse, lying, expulsion from home, discrimination based on ideological, religious, cultural, custom, tradition, appearance, color, Humiliating, losing mental balance, encouraging suicide or creating a situation to commit suicide on the basis of physical appearance and illness, and the word also refers to any other act that may cause mental or emotional injury.
(e) "Sexual harassment" shall mean sexual abuse, humiliation, discouragement or any act that injures self-esteem or harms safe sexual health.
(f) "Economic Torture" shall mean deprivation of access to or use of personal or private property or access to or use of employment or financial resources and means, and the term shall mean, in the case of a woman, demanding dowry, pressuring her to bring dowry or being hated for not bringing dowry. It also means contempt.
(g) "Victim" means a person who claims to be a victim of domestic violence by having a domestic relationship with the perpetrator.
(h)"Perpetrator" means a person who is in a domestic relationship with the victim and who the victim claims has committed domestic violence against him and the term also refers to other persons or persons involved in the act of domestic violence. j) "Police office" means the police office where the victim resides, the perpetrator is located or the police office close to the scene of the incident and the word refers to the children's or women's cell under the district police office or the police station or sub-station.
(j) "Local level" means the rural municipality or municipality where the victim resides or the perpetrator is located or where the incident took place and the word also refers to the ward committee of the municipality.
(k) "Court" means the court designated by the Government of Nepal by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette.
(T1) "Complaint" means a complaint given under section 4 or 5 and that word means section 5A. It also refers to the declaration application given as per .
(l) "Prescribed" or "as prescribed" means as prescribed or prescribed in the rules made under this Act.
