2. Definition
For the purposes of this policy:-
(a) "Genetic material" means the functional unit of the flora, fauna and micro-organisms of the Dominion of Nepal.
(b) "Genetic resources" means genetic material of real and potential importance in actual and potential conditions in Nepal's endemic or endemic conditions. The term also refers to the components of such genetic material or its altered and modified form. But that term does not refer to human genetic resources.
(c) "Indigenous" conservation should mean conservation in the original habitat itself.
(d) "Extra-local conservation" refers to the act of protecting the natural or artificial environment elsewhere than the original habitat.
(e) "Biodiversity" means the relationship and diversity of animals and plants that are part of the ecological system of the terrestrial, aquatic, marine and other areas. The term also refers to ethnic, species diversity, genetic diversity and ecological system diversity.
(f) "Agricultural Biodiversity" means the diversity of agricultural ecosystems under biological diversity, food and agricultural genetic resources included in species diversity and genetic diversity, different types of organisms that provide environmental services associated with agricultural production systems, certain effects on agricultural biodiversity Abiotic aspects and social, economic and cultural aspects (according to schedule 1) should be mentioned.

(k) "Benefit sharing" means the sharing of economic benefits and other benefits resulting from the access, use and exploitation of genetic resources and genetic material.
(l) "Equitable distribution" means the sharing and distribution of benefits for providing access to genetic resources or genetic material and for preserving, enhancing and developing traditional knowledge, skills, discoveries, techniques and practices related to such resources and materials. (d) "Traditional knowledge" means the knowledge, skills, discoveries, techniques and practices inherent in local people or communities about the conservation and use of biological resources.
(d) "Biosecurity" means measures to avoid agricultural biodiversity, health and safety of humans, animals, plants, and environmental risks from the commercial or research use of infectious, genetically modified organisms, including living modified organisms.
(n) “Committee” shall refer to the “Agricultural Biodiversity, National Conservation Committee” as per Schedule 2 of this Policy.
