Unless the subject or context requires otherwise, in this Act, –

(a) Court” shall mean the Supreme Court, High Court or District Court and that term shall mean the proceedings of any particular type of case in accordance with law and (b) "Prisoner" means a person who is in prison under the judgment of a court. (c) "Detainee" means a court, police or other court for the purpose of investigation or trial of a crime. means a person in the custody of an officer or in custody under the Public Safety Act, 2046.

(e) "Prescribed" or "as prescribed" means prescribed or prescribed by the rules made under this Act.
(f) "Jailor" shall mean a person appointed or appointed to perform the work of a jailer in accordance with this Act.

(g) "Prison office" shall mean the office of a jailer.
(h) “Hospital” means a government hospital, dispensary or dispensary. (j) "Open prison" means any place designated by the Government of Nepal to keep such prisoners in such a way that the prisoner can go outside the place where he is kept to do any work during the specified time.
