: To protect and promote the freedom of expression and the right to be well-informed of the people guaranteed by the constitution and to bring the economic, social and cultural activities of the country to the public through the broadcasting system, equality, mutual goodwill among all races, languages, classes, regions and religious sects. And by creating an environment of harmony and raising public awareness through the national language, by using modern technology available in the field of information and communication, by making reliable, effective and strong means of broadcasting, and by making the flow of information uninterrupted so that the common people can get information about fair and official news and information at the national and international level. Since it is desirable to make a legal arrangement regarding broadcasting, Parliament has made this Act in the twenty-second year of the reign of Shri 5th Maharajadhiraj Birendra Bir Bikram Shahdev.
