(1) A gazetted first class officer of Nepal Administration Service shall work as the Director General of the Department.
(2) The main responsibility of the operation, management, protection, coordination and supervision of the identity card and registration system shall be that of the Director General.
(3) In addition to the duties, duties and powers written elsewhere in this Act, the duties, duties and powers of the Director General shall be as follows:-
(a) Collecting applications for national identity cards and registration,
(b) To scrutinize and register the national identity card and the application for registration and issue the identity number and identity card,
(c) Making necessary arrangements for safe and orderly keeping of data warehouse and records related to identity cards and registration,
(d) To maintain the confidentiality of the data repository and related records,
(e) Arranging the exchange of information between the national identity card and registration system and the data storage and information technology systems of other agencies,
(f) Coordinating, monitoring, supervising and evaluating the work carried out by the department as the administrative head of the department,
(g) In the course of managing the national identity card and registration system, in coordination with the security agencies, arrange for the necessary security measures to be carried out,
(h) To implement the policy related to the national identity card and registration and social security of the government of Nepal, (h) To contact and coordinate with the national and international bodies and organizations related to the identity card and registration technology with the approval of the government of Nepal, to develop technology with such bodies or organizations and To share necessary support for capacity development,
(N) To enforce the laws, rules, guidelines, instructions, procedures and standards related to national identity card and registration and social security,
(k) To carry out other tasks specified by the Government of Nepal, the Coordination Committee and the Data Security Committee from time to time.
