Rule 18
Scrutiny of nomination papers

(1) When the election officer examines the nomination papers registered according to rule 15, if there is a complaint against a candidate in accordance with section 19 of the Ordinance, he will have to make a decision in that regard after considering the necessary investigation. If two nomination papers are registered for the same group, if both nomination papers are valid, then the election officer shall maintain one of the nomination papers according to the wishes of the concerned candidate or his representative, proposer or supporter. (3) Nomination papers shall not be invalidated merely because of minor mistakes in the nomination papers during examination of the nomination papers. Explanation: For the purposes of this sub-rule and sub-rule (2) of rule 31, "minor mistakes" means any errors in the voter's list or in the nomination papers of the candidate, proposer or with them. Technical or general error of letters, quantity or numbers related to writing or printing of the name, surname, age, nationality or serial number of the person concerned.
