Section 17
Work and Duties of the Institute
: The main duty of the Institute will be to operate and manage it as a high-class publishing organization by publishing useful books for schools, colleges and all ordinary people while keeping the Institute itself free from the influence of political or economic parties or special principles.
(2) The Institute may publish other useful maps, calendars, etc. without prejudice to the duties mentioned in sub-section (1) keeping in mind the public interest.
(3) Without prejudice to the generality of the rights and duties under sub-section (1), the corporation shall have the right to perform the following works or exercise the rights in particular:-
(a) Writing books etc., translating, printing, publishing, distributing, advertising and conducting all kinds of work,
(b) To arrange education and training for people inside or outside the institute on the work of the institute,
(c) determining the new version, size type, block and price etc. of the book,
(d) To procure and procure printing presses and other necessary materials for carrying out the matters mentioned in clause (c),
(e) To take necessary steps to improve the standard of publication,
(f) To arrange for a reasonable reward per edition to be given to the author of the book he has commissioned to be prepared,
(g) To acquire, enjoy and transfer movable and immovable property for the purpose of doing the work he is entitled to do,
(h) grant and execute all contracts and leases which may assist in the exercise of his rights and the performance of his duties,
(i) Printing, selling, distributing and promoting books given for publication by any person, organization and government or semi-government organization,
(j) To mortgage the property of the institute and take a loan from others,
(k) to lease, sell or otherwise dispose of the property of the Corporation,
(l) payment of dividend on shares of the Corporation,
(d) promoting his publications,
(d) To open sales centers or agents for sales and distribution of his own publications throughout Nepal and abroad.C give,
(n) Invest his money in securities if permitted by the Government of Nepal, and
(i) To perform all the duties and exercise of his rights under this Act and to do all other things necessary for carrying out the purposes of this Act and in connection therewith.
