Reducing prison sentences of well-behaved prisoners

(2) Chowkidar, Naik, Sahnaike, teacher and laborer who work faithfully within the jail shall be paid respectively two months in a year to Chowkidar, one month and fifteen days in a year to Naik, one month in a year to Sahnaike and work as a teacher or factory worker. According to the report of the jailer or the factory, the prisoner who has done good work for a month can be given the benefit of imprisonment at the rate of five days. According to this bye-law, the benefits of imprisonment shall be calculated from the period of the punishment of short imprisonment according to the prevailing law.
(2a) In the case of prisoners who cannot see both eyes or cannot move both legs or who have become paralyzed and cannot recover after lying down, the rest of the prison sentence can be reduced.
(3) If it is necessary to reduce the sentence of imprisonment written in sub-rules (2) and (2A), the jailer shall submit his opinion to the Chief District Officer.
(4) According to sub-rule (3), if the district chief officer considers the opinion submitted by the jailer to reduce the prison sentence, if it is appropriate, the district chief officer shall send the same opinion to the prison management department and send the information to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
(5) If written according to sub-rule (4), the Prison Management Department shall send its opinion to the Ministry of Home Affairs for decision.
(6) After receiving according to sub-rule (5), if the Ministry of Home Affairs deems it appropriate, it should decide to reduce the prison sentence and send it in writing to the concerned jailer for the implementation of the decision.
(7) According to sub-rule (6) after receiving the decision to reduce the imprisonment sentence from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the jailer shall deduct the cost of imprisonment and release the prisoner.
