(1) With the intention of selling or using as a pure drug or knowing that it is likely to be sold or used in such a way that the effect of the drug is nullified, reduced or altered or harmful. If a medicine is adulterated, or if it is sold knowingly that it is adulterated or expired medicine, or if it is manufactured for sale, or if it is kept for sale, or if it is given to someone for the purpose of treatment, or if any person who does not know about the adulteration is made to consume such medicine, he shall be punished as follows.

(a) Imprisonment for life or imprisonment up to ten years and fine if life is likely to be threatened, (b) Imprisonment and fine for up to ten years if any of the body's powers may be impaired or lost,
(c) Imprisonment for up to five years or fine or both in other cases.
(2) Even if any other thing is sold as medicine, it shall be punished for committing an offense under sub-section (1).
