(1) The Office shall perform the following functions:-

(a) the standards prescribed by Article 9303 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO);  Issuance of Machine Redevel Passport, Electronic Passport (e-Passport), Biometric Passport or Emergency Passport,

(b) Preparing the format of the passport and submitting it to the Government of Nepal for approval and distributing the passport according to the approved format,

(c) Required on the application for the passport scrutinizing and issuing passports,

(d) taking applications for travel permits and issuing travel permits,

(e) Keeping records related to issued passports and travel permits in electronic form,

(f) Passports (printing and other necessary tasks related to management ,

(Q1) Collecting electronic applications and details for passports,

(Q2 ) to place a device (chips or microchips) with personal details of the passport bearer in the electronic passport,

(g) to perform other tasks prescribed by the Government of Nepal.

(2) The office may delegate the authority to issue ordinary passports to any other agency or delegation of the Government of Nepal in accordance with this regulation.
