(1) The identity card issued according to Rule 4 shall be valid for a maximum of ten years in case of a foreign citizen of Nepali origin and for two years in case of a Nepali citizen living abroad subject to sub-section (3) of Section 4 of the Act.
(2) Non-resident Nepalese who wish to renew their identity card must submit an application to the head of the delegation or the secretary in the format as per schedule-6 before the validity period of the identity card expires.
(3) If an application is received according to sub-rule (2), the head of the commission or the secretary shall renew the identity card at one time by taking the form as per schedule-4 without exceeding the period of sub-section (3) of section 4 of the Act.
(4) When renewing the identity card according to sub-rule (3), the record must also be updated in the records created according to sub-rule (1) of rule 4, stating the number of the identity card and the period of validity of the identity card.
