In these Rules, unless the subject or the context otherwise requires-
(a) "Act" shall mean the Environment Protection Act, 2053.
(b) "Related body" means any ministry of the Government of Nepal related to the work mentioned in the Act or this regulation.
(c) “Area” shall mean the area determined under rule 4 for the purpose of environmental impact assessment.
(d) "Report" shall mean a report relating to preliminary environmental assessment or environmental impact assessment.
(e) "Agenda" means the agenda approved under rule 5 for preparing the report.
(f) "Industry" means the industries specified in Schedule-7.

(h) "Inspector" shall mean an environmental inspector appointed or specified in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 8 of the Act.
(J1) "Battery" means lead acid battery which is made by using lead material (lead metal) and acid (acid) in the form of electric power.
(j2) "Battery dealer" means manufacture, repair, reprocessing, import, dealer or assembler of batteries and the term also refers to a person or organization acting as a retailer of batteries.
(i) "Register" shall mean the register prepared by the concerned body in accordance with sub-section (2) of section 9 of the Act.
(j) "Laboratory" shall mean a laboratory established or designated as per Section 11 of the Act.
(k) "Fund" means the Environment Protection Fund established under Section 13 of the Act.
(l) "Board of Directors" means the Board of Directors of the fund constituted as per Rule 39.
(d) "Compensation" means the compensation determined under rule 45.
