Section 6
Referral Service
: (1) Every health institution shall provide the patient who comes for treatment for further treatment by providing the services available in his institution if the health institution does not have the structure, equipment, specialist services or if the treatment cannot be provided due to any other appropriate reason. Such a patient should be immediately sent to a health institution that can provide treatment.
(2) The health institution shall complete the prescribed methods and procedures while sending as per sub-section (1).
(3) The Government of Nepal, the State Government and the local level will make necessary arrangements to make the service effective by establishing the necessary referral system between the health institutions that provide specialist services and basic health services.
(4) Regardless of what is written elsewhere in this section, when sending a patient undergoing emergency treatment, the sending health institution shall send it with the minimum health-related equipment and available health facilities.
