Section 16
Things to consider when punishing children

(1) When punishing children, the following points should also be considered:-
(a) his best interests,
(b) the gravity of the offense and the extent of the fault,
(c) His personal circumstances, Explanation: For the purposes of this section, "personal circumstances" means the child's age, education, family status, social status, type of offence, harm caused by the offense and the purpose of committing the offence.
(d) the compensation offered to the victim,
(e) remorse for the offence,
(f) Desire to lead a good and useful life.
(2) When punishing children who have not reached the age of sixteen years, imprisonment shall not be imposed except for heinous offences, serious offenses or crimes committed in a vexatious manner.
