Section 177
Tasks to be done by the judge himself

(1) According to this Code, among the tasks performed by the court, the following tasks shall be performed by the judge himself:-
(a) To take the statement of the accused or the witness or make affidavit,
(b) administering oaths to witnesses,
(c) remand for remand or order bail or bail,
(d) To issue order forms for matters to be decided in the case,
(e) making orders relating to the taking of evidence,
(f) to grant interim or interim orders,
(g) hearing the case,
(h) Conduct preliminary and pre-hearing discussions of cases,
(j) make any other order as may be necessary, and
(j) to make judgments, or give final orders.
(2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), the following may be done as follows:-
(a) At the direction of the judge, the statement of the witness shall be recorded by the staff of the court, at least up to the first class gazetted,
(b) In the absence of the judge, the most senior employee present in the court shall make the statement of the accused or give an order according to paragraph-7 in relation to keeping him in custody or taking bail or bail from him. But the order made according to this section shall be submitted to the judge as soon as he appears in the court and he may verify, cancel or amend such order.
(3) Apart from what is written in sub-section (1) or (2), other works may be done by the subordinate staff according to the instructions or orders of the judge.
