Section 2
Definition
In this Act, unless the subject or context requires otherwise,-
(a) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Board.
(b) "Executive Director" shall mean the Executive Director as per Section 20.
(c) "Fund" means the Health Insurance Fund as per Section 27.
(d) "Prescribed" or "as prescribed" means prescribed or prescribed in the rules made under this Act.
(e) "Family" means husband, wife, father, mother or step-mother, brother, brother, sister, sister, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, adopted son, adopted daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a person joining the health insurance program and In the case of a man or an unmarried woman, the word refers to his brother-in-law, father-in-law, and in the case of a married woman, his mother-in-law, father-in-law.
(f) "Insured" means the family that participates in the health insurance program and pays the contribution amount (premium).
(g) "Board" means the Health Insurance Board as per section 13.
(h) "Ministry" means the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population.
(i) "Contribution amount (premium)" means the amount received from the insured for participating in the health insurance program and the term also refers to the amount paid by the Nepalese government, provincial government, local government, any individual or organization on behalf of such insured.
(j) "Member" means a member of the Board and the word also refers to the Chairman and Member-Secretary of the Board.
(k) "Service" shall mean the service to be received by the insured in accordance with section 5.
(l) "Service Provider" means any of the following health institutions contracting with the Board to provide services:-
(1) Hospitals, health institutions, teaching hospitals, primary health centers, health posts, urban health clinics or units run by the Government of Nepal, provincial governments or local governments,
(2) a privately run hospital, teaching hospital, nursing home, polyclinic or clinic,
(3) Community, cooperative, non-governmental organizationsA hospital, teaching hospital, nursing home, polyclinic or clinic operated by
(4) A pharmacy or diagnostic health care provider,
(5) Ayurveda hospital, homeopathy, acupuncture treatment hospital or naturopathy,
(6) Other health institutions that provide health services as specified.
(d) "Health insurance" means the health insurance taken by the insured in accordance with paragraph-2 in order to receive the service.
