Rule 51
Maternity leave

(1) If a female employee is about to give birth, she will get sixty days maternity leave before or after the delivery.
(2) Female employees who have taken maternity leave according to sub-rule (1) may take unpaid maternity leave for an additional six months without deduction from any leave if they wish. But the leave according to sub-rule (2) should be taken continuously.
(3) According to sub-rule (2), the period spent on paid leave shall be added to the period of employment.
(4) Female employees will get full salary while on maternity leave.
(5) According to sub-section (3) of section 42 of the Act, a lump sum child care allowance of five thousand rupees will be given to employees who have taken maternity leave and maternity care leave.
(6) The record of taking maternity leave should be updated by the relevant office.
