Section 9
Appointment, promotion, dismissal and other departmental punishment of police personnel
(1) The appointment and promotion of gazetted police officers shall be as prescribed by the Government of Nepal and the appointment and promotion of other subordinate police officers by the Inspector General of Police, Additional Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police or Zonal Superintendent.
(2) Police personnel will remain in their posts for as long as the Government of Nepal wishes.
(3) The Inspector General of Police, Additional Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police or Zonal Superintendent may dismiss, remove from service, reduce the rank or salary or impose other punishments on gazetted police officers and other subordinate officers and soldiers as prescribed by the Government of Nepal.
(4) If a subordinate police officer is careless or negligent in performing his duties, or if he is unfit to perform any duty in order to avoid performing any duty, or if he breaks discipline or otherwise behaves improperly, he shall be dismissed, removed from service, rank by the designated officer. or may reduce the salary or impose the following punishment as may be deemed necessary:
(a) Penalty up to one month's salary.
(b) Quartermaster detention for 15 days, whether or not performing punitive duty, extra guard or fatig (physically tiring) or other duty. But the punishment written in this section cannot be given to any officer.
(c) Removal from positions of important responsibility or withdrawal of special salary allowances.
