Rule 106
Teachers' Leave

(1) The teacher will get the following holidays:-
(a) Six days of holiday in a year,
(b) Festival holidays six days in a year,
(c) Sick leave twelve days in a year,
(d) Maternity leave sixty days before or after delivery,
(D1) Maternity care leave for fifteen days
(e) Kiriya leave for fifteen days,
(f) Extraordinary leave not exceeding one year at a time for a maximum of three years throughout the entire period of employment,
(g) Study leave for the entire period of employment at one time or several times for a maximum of three years.
(h) Leave without pay for a maximum of five years.
(2) Holidays and festival holidays can be taken for half a day. Such leave will not be accumulated.
(3) Teachers may accumulate sick leave. The teacher should get such leave certified by the inspector every year. If a teacher retires from his service, he will get a lump-sum amount due to his accumulated sick leave at the rate of the salary scale for the position he is in charge of.
(4) In case of absence from sick leave to treat a major or serious illness, the teacher can take additional sick leave up to twelve days in advance for the period of such illness, which will be deducted from the sick leave received later, by submitting a certificate from an approved doctor. If the teacher who has taken advance leave in this way dies, such advance leave will automatically be waived.
(5) If the teacher dies without being able to take the amount of accumulated sick leave, the amount of such accumulated sick leave will be received in lump sum by the person who wishes or the next of kin.

(6a) If the wife of a male teacher is to give birth, such teacher shall be entitled to maternity care leave before or after the delivery. Teachers on maternity leave will get full salary and such leave will be granted only twice during the service period.
(7) If the teacher has to stay in Kirya himself, he will get Kirya leave. If the husband of a female teacher has to stay in Kiriya, such a female teacher will also get Kiriya leave.
(8) A teacher who has not completed at least five years of permanent service, except in case of illness, shall not be entitled to extraordinary leaveNo.
(9) Teachers who have completed five years of permanent service may be given study leave for higher studies in teaching-related subjects.
(9a) If a teacher's husband or wife is working in a Nepalese embassy or mission abroad, if such a teacher requests unpaid leave, he will be entitled to unpaid leave for five years during the entire employment period.
(9b) The period of leave without pay shall not be counted towards his period of service.
(10) Teachers who are on holiday leave, festival leave, sick leave, holiday leave, maternity leave and study leave will get full salary.
(11) Teachers on extraordinary leave will not be paid.
