Section 7
Duties, Duties and Powers of Prison Administrator

(1) In addition to the work, duties and rights according to this Act and other prevailing laws, the work, duties and rights of the prison administrator shall be as follows:- (a) To manage the internal management of the prison, (b) Safely keep or store missiles, prisoner records, books, documents and goods in their charge according to the prevailing law,
(c) for the proper management of prisoners in prisons; While doing the necessary work, conducting and managing in this way, taking into account the special needs of a prisoner due to age, gender, disability, etc.,
(d) keep the security system of the prison tight, inspect it from time to time and keep the prison under his supervision and surveillance at all times,
(e) Giving necessary instructions to the security personnel and other employees assigned to the prison to manage the prison,
(f) make necessary arrangements for providing free legal aid to prisoners as required,
(g) Arranging for necessary moral reform and psycho-social counseling for prisoners,
(h) To comply with the instructions given by the Ministry, Department, State Government and Chief District Officer regarding prison management.
(2) The Jail Administrator shall also be responsible to the Chief District Officer of the concerned district.
(3) The Jail Administrator shall reside in Government accommodation assigned to him and shall ordinarily obtain the permission of the Chief District Officer before leaving the Jail.
(4) The prison administrator may delegate some of the powers granted to him under this Act to his subordinates as needed. But according to section 52, the right to impose fine cannot be delegated.
(5) The prison administrator shall prepare an annual report as prescribed and submit it to the relevant ministries and departments of the provincial government.
