Article 297
Provisions related to President and Vice President
: (1) The President and Vice President existing at the time of commencement of this Constitution shall remain in office until another President and Vice President are elected in accordance with this Article.
(2) If the session of the Legislature-Parliament is in progress at the time this Constitution is initiated, then the election of the President and the Vice-President on the basis of political consensus shall be held from the date of commencement of this Constitution, and if the session is not ongoing, within one month from the date of calling the session as per Article 296 Sub-section (6) Sub-section of Article 296 (1) Legislature-Parliament will do.
(3) If a consensus cannot be reached according to sub-section (2), the election of the President and the Vice-President shall be completed by the majority of all members of the Legislature-Parliament.
(4) If the position of President or Vice-President elected in accordance with sub-section (2) or (3) becomes vacant for any reason, the President or Vice-President shall be elected by the Legislature-Parliament in accordance with this Article until the formation of the Federal Parliament.
(5) The term of office of the President or Vice-President elected in accordance with this Article shall continue until another President or Vice-President is elected from the Electoral College as per Article 62 and assumes office.
(6) The office of President or Vice-President elected in accordance with this Article shall be vacant in any of the following cases:-
(a) If the President resigns in writing to the Vice-President and the Vice-President to the President,
(b) If the resolution of impeachment is passed against him in accordance with clause (7),
(c) If another President or Vice President is elected from the Electoral College as per Article 62 and assumes office,
(d) In case of his death.
(7) On the charge of serious violation of this constitution and laws by the President or Vice-President elected in accordance with this Article, at least one-fourth of the members of the Legislature-Parliament as per Article 296 sub-section (1) may submit a motion of impeachment against him. If such proposal is passed by a majority of at least two-thirds of the total number of members immediately existing in the Legislature-Parliament, he will be relieved of his office.
