Rule 62
Extraordinary vacation

(1) Civil servants must submit an application with the reason for taking extraordinary leave, and if the reason is justified, the Government of Nepal may grant extraordinary leave not exceeding one year at a time and not exceeding three years throughout the service period.
(2) Civil servants on extraordinary leave will not get salary during that period. But according to sub-rule (10) of Rule 58, the civil servant who is on extraordinary leave will get full salary for the period of such leave.
(3) No civil servant shall be entitled to extraordinary leave before completing five years of government service. But –
(a) In accordance with sub-rule (10) of rule 58, this sub-rule shall not be considered as a hindrance to stay on extraordinary leave for additional sick leave.
(b) After completing two years of service, civil servants who wish to study in private endeavors may get extraordinary leave for a maximum of three years at one time or several times subject to sub-rule (1).
(4) The period of extraordinary leave taken by a civil servant shall not be counted towards his period of service.
