Section 184
Not to throw away or abandon a person under your custody
(1) No newborn baby, child, infirm patient or elderly person shall be thrown away, abandoned or neglected by a person who has the duty of care or care in such a way as to endanger his or her life.
(2) A person who commits or causes an offense under sub-section (1) shall be imprisoned for up to three years and fined up to thirty thousand rupees.
(3) If such a child, disabled, sick or elderly person dies due to the offense under sub-section (1), the offender shall be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined up to seventy thousand rupees. However, if the death of a new-born child is due to being thrown, abandoned or neglected, the punishment shall be as per section 177.
