Section 242
Punishment for stealing
(1) A person who commits or commits theft in the following circumstances shall be imprisoned for a term of two years to seven years and shall be fined from twenty thousand rupees to seventy thousand rupees:-
(a) In case of theft of any Government or public property or property of any religious place or temple,
(b) steals any property by intoxicating or intoxicating any person or otherwise rendering him unconscious,
(c) In case of theft of any property in the event of an earthquake, fire, flood, riot or any other dangerous situation of a similar nature or any accident,
(d) If he steals the property of the office or person in whose service he is,
(e) In case of theft in any vehicle used for transporting people or goods.
(2) A person who commits or commits theft under any circumstances other than as mentioned in sub-section (1) shall be imprisoned for up to three years and fined up to thirty thousand rupees.
