Section 56
Not to be spied on

(1) Any person, with the intention of disrupting the sovereignty, security or geographical or territorial integrity of Nepal or having any adverse effect on the interests of Nepal, knowingly or knowingly that such may happen, or under the instigation of any foreign state or international organization or organization, informs anyone about the military situation, strategic arrangement or internal security of Nepal. The government shall not give information about a matter that should be kept secret from a political, economic or diplomatic point of view, or a secret document or a matter that is or should be kept secret according to law, or any conspiracy or enterprise thereof, or any other act with the intention of giving such information, and if it is done, it will be considered as espionage.
(2) A person who commits or causes espionage in accordance with sub-section (1) shall be punished as follows:-
(a) Imprisonment for a term of up to twenty-five years for any person who engages in espionage in relation to the military situation, strategic arrangements or internal security of Nepal,
(b) Imprisonment for five to ten years for any person who espies or causes espionage in connection with matters or any other secret documents that the Government of Nepal should keep secret from a political, economic or diplomatic point of view,
(c) Any person who espies or causes to be espied other than clauses (a) and (b) shall be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years and to a fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees,
(d) A person who, knowing that someone is going to spy, does not report such thing to the Government of Nepal, shall be imprisoned for up to one year and fined up to one lakh rupees.
