In this Act, unless the subject or context otherwise requires,–
(a) "Civil Service" shall mean the Civil Service constituted as per Section 3.
(b) "Civil servant" means a person holding a position in the civil service.
(c) "Authority" shall mean an officer who can appoint as per section 9.
(C1) "Permanent Residence Permit" means Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV), Permanent Resident Visa (PR) or Green Card provided to Nepali citizens to reside permanently in that country with or without any conditions. It should be remembered that the term also refers to the permanent residence permit of any name given to Nepali citizens to live abroad permanently.
(d) "Family" shall mean the husband, wife, son, unmarried daughter, adopted son, unmarried adopted daughter, father, mother or step-mother who is a civil servant and has to be supported by him and by that word, in the case of male and unmarried female employees, his son, daughter-in-law and In the case of a married female employee, it also refers to her mother-in-law, father-in-law.
(e) "Head of Department" shall mean the designated officer.
(f) "Head of Office" shall mean the chief employee of the designated office.
(g) "Permanent post" shall mean a civil service post which is pensionable and has no fixed term.
(h) "Specialist post" shall mean a post having special nature of work, duties and responsibilities and requiring special qualifications.
(J1) "Trade Union of Civil Servants" shall mean the Trade Union of Civil Servants formed under sub-section (1) of Section 53.
(J2) "Official Trade Union of Civil Servants" shall mean the official trade union of civil servants constituted as per sub-section (3) of Section 53.
(i) "Prescribed" or "as prescribed" shall mean as prescribed or prescribed in the rules made under this Act.
