Section 307
Punishment for contempt
(1) If anyone insults or insults anyone, he shall be punished with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of up to twenty thousand rupees or both. (2) If it is found that someone has insulted or insulted someone, the insulted person shall be paid reasonable compensation from the offender and the expenses incurred by the offender as well, taking into consideration the seriousness of the offence, the effect on the reputation of such a person and if the insult has been done through electronic or other mass media.
(3) If it is determined that a deceased person has been insulted in accordance with this paragraph, the offender shall pay such compensation and the amount of expenses incurred in the case to the next of kin whose feelings have been hurt by such insult.
