Section 291
No killing of animals or birds in public places

(1) Except as otherwise provided in this Code, no one shall kill any animal or bird in any public place other than a religious place where it has traditionally been sacrificed. Explanation: For the purposes of this section, "public place" means a road, street, bridge, square or place where people come and go.
(2) According to sub-section (1), animals or birds cannot be sacrificed in public or religious places other than religious places where sacrifices have been traditionally offered.
(3) According to sub-section (1), if there is any other alternative to animal or bird sacrifice, such a solution should be adopted.
(4) If it is not possible to take the measures as per sub-section (3), if it is necessary to sacrifice an animal or a bird, the sacrifice must be done at the place and according to the method determined by the manager of the relevant religious place for that purpose.
(5) A person who commits or causes an offense under this section shall be punished with imprisonment up to one month or a fine of up to five thousand rupees or both.
